Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano yesterday shared his grudges on social media while his colleagues were voting to elect Sen. Koko Pimentel III as the new Senate President.
Cayetano targeted the Senate presidency after losing in the May 2016 vice presidential race but lost to Pimentel who bagged the post after securing the nod of majority of the senators, including members of the Liberal Party and Nacionalista Party.
He was the only senator absent when the Senate formally opened its first session for the 17th Congress.
Twenty three senators voted Pimentel as the new Senate leader.
On his Facebook wall, Cayetano said two groups offered him a deal to become Senate President. But according to him, he let go of the offers because he chose to make a commitment to protect and help the President.
Cayetano was President Duterte’s running mate during the May 2016 elections.
“‘Losing What Was Never Mine. Keeping What’s Important to Me. 2 (Two) Groups Offered me a deal. Taking just 1 (one) of the two offers would have made me Senate President. Yet somehow I was never tempted to take the deal because On May 7 2016, in Luneta, on Our Historic Miting De Avance, I Made A Commitment: A commitment to help and protect our President. Our GOD Given “Reset Button”, who would Initiate Revolutionary Change In our Country and Liberate us from Illegal Drugs, Crime and Corruption/Incompetence/ Apathy in Government!,” Cayetano said
