San Beda continued to display its might as it dumped San Sebastian, 74-66, yesterday to remain unscathed in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The defending champion Red Cubs came out smoking in the first quarter and held on to their edge all throughout the game despite the persistent attempts of the Staglets to clinch their sixth straight victory in as many games.
Sam Abu Hijle waxed hot anew with 30 points and 14 rebounds for the Red Cubs, who lead 27-6 in the first quarter and never looked back.
Joshua Tagala also spelled the difference for San Beda with 12 points, seven boards, three steals and two assists even as Evan Nelle chipped in 11 markers, five rebounds and five assists.
San Sebastian dropped to its seventh consecutive loss in as many games despite the impressive efforts of Wendell Binarao, who had 25 points and 13 rebounds.
The Red Cubs dominated the Staglets in all departments by dishing off 21-10 assists and grabbing more rebounds, 61-47. San Beda also had a better field goal percentage at 36 percent compared to San Sebastian’s 29.58 percent.
Earlier, University of Perpetual Help improved to 4-3 after an 88-68 demolition of Letran.
Jielo Razon sparkled for the Junior Altas with 23 points on 4-of-5 3-point shooting while hauling 10 boards.
