CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) is all set to lend a helping hand to sugarcane farmers who were affected by the recent dry spell.
According to project evaluation officer Engr. Dominicio Eleseo of the DA Regional field Office 10, most of the 16,000 farmers were into sugarcane farming, a fact that will stress a need to give priority to that particular sector.
Last week, some 5,000 farmers trooped to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Field Office, here, to ask for rice subsidy for what they claimed were 16,000 farmers of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.
Meantime Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Director Eddie Nasol said Northern Mindanao’s economy dropped from 7.1 percent in 2014 to 5.5 percent in 2015.
The deceleration was due to the slowdown in the Industry and Services sectors. (Camcer Imam)
