La Salle made its title campaign felt yesterday as it downed sister team College of St. Benilde, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, at the start of the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Raymark Woo spearheaded the Archers’ assault with a 24-point explosion, 22 coming from attacks, to become the first time marching into the winner’s column in Group A of this 12-team conference.
Mike Frey and Arjat Onia also stepped up for La Salle with 16 and 13 points, respectively, with Frey building his production on 12 attacks and three blocks.
The team performance of the Archers overshadowed the efforts of Johnvic De Guzman for St. Benilde, who sizzled with 27 points including 23 kills and four blocks.
Guest player Philip Michael Bagalay also finished with 11 points for the Blazers in a losing cause.
The Archers dominated the Blazers on almost all departments, including in attacks, 54-46, and blocks, 13-10.
Geuel Asia also silently contributed for La Salle with 50 excellent sets, while Joper Movido had 22 of the team’s 45 digs.
