Alcohol abuse is often in the news. An actor has gained popularity, if not notoriety, for engaging in public drinking and shaming himself in the process.
He probably has yet to hear this famous line from US-based Mayo Clinic: ‘Alcohol use can be a slippery slope.
Moderate drinking can offer some health benefits. But heavy drinking can have serious consequences.’
Does that send a warning signal to those concerned?
There are varied reactions to alcohol use, and in most cases, abuse.
Some studies have shown the good effect of alcohol in controlling heart diseases. Cardiologists even recommend drinking of a glass of red wine every night. Red wine supposedly clears the veins to allow free flow of blood to the heart.

While doctors acknowledge the effectivity of wines and other forms of alcohol, it does not necessarily mean that you have to drink every day.
As the saying goes, too much of everything can kill you. In the same breath, too much alcohol consumption can lead to serious health problems.
The key, of course, and as in any, is moderation.
Some consider alcohol as a drug that can lead to addiction. Overcoming addiction is a long, arduous journey.
According to an article in March 2015, nearly 88,000people (approximately 62,000 men and 26,000 women) died from alcohol-related causes annually, making it the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
