CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Central Luzon police regional director Chief Supt. Aaron N. Aquino is all set to target bigger fish in the coming months as they intensify their campaign against illegal drugs.
Aquino said that following the launching and implementation of the PNP’s newest anti-drug project, “Double Barrel” last July 1, a remarkable decrease of 50% in crime incidents in Region 3 has been noted.
Because of this, Aquino warned big-time personalities in their area about their intention to step up their drive.
“We will continue to intensify the conduct of operations against illegal drugs personalities and drug syndicates not only concentrating on street pushers but also on our High Value Targets including politicians, barangay officials, and media practitioners who are listed in our drug watchlist,” disclosed Aquino.
Project “Double Barrel” which is a two-pronged approach consisting of Project HVT (upper barrel) and Project Tokhang (lower barrel) has yielded over 36,000 surrenderees approximately 800 grams of shabu and marijuana and over 100 hundred firearms.
“There is indeed a relationship between illegal drugs and the occurrence of crime. Right after the mass surrender of illegal drug personalities, there has been a notable crime reduction,” said Aquino. (Freddie C. Velez)
