A government contractor was sentenced by the Sandiganbayan to imprisonment of up to 10 years due to ghost delivery of supplies, the Office of the Ombudsman announced yesterday.
Found guilty of violating Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act was Ricardo Adriano, proprietor of Julia Enterprises and General Merchandise, together with Ofelia Caunan, former head of the general services office of ParaƱaque City, for the ghost delivery of two units of compost garbage and recycling equipment.
In its decision, the Sandiganbayan found that in December 2000, ParaƱaque City purchased from Julia Enterprises 14 units of compost garbage and recycling equipment for distribution to barangays.
Upon verification, the Commission on Audit found that two units of the garbage equipment were not delivered to Barangay Marcelo Green as testified to by its barangay chairman. (Jun Ramirez)
