President Duterte has threatened to close down companies, including a large shopping mall, if they do not stop contractualization.
The President asked the wayward companies not to wait to be caught by the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) and instead give proper security of tenure and compensation to their employees.
“Huwag na ninyo akong hintayin na mahuli ko kayo because I will be unforgiving. You will not only lose your money, you will lose your pants,” the President said in a media interview at the Palace.
“No tolerance ako dito. Ito ang pangako ko sa tao and I will do it. Hintuan na ninyo ‘yan, bayaran ninyo ang tao sa tamang sweldo. Stop contractualization. It will not do good to our country,” he said.
The President said permits of these businesses will be revoked if they continue with their contractual employment. He said if companies do not take care of workers, then “I cannot take care of you.”
“Basta anybody violating the minimum wage law, hindi kayo nagbabayad ng tama, you go ahead with the contractualization, I will close you,” he added. (GK)
