University of Perpetual Help fanned its winning streak to four games as it repulsed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 70-53, yesterday in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
Defense, as expected, played a key role in the Altas’ victory as they limited the Generals to a season-low 22.54 percent in field goal shooting to jump at solo second place with a 6-2 win-loss record.
The Generals, for their part, slipped near the bottom standings with a 1-7 card.
“Kailangan i-work pa rin yung good defense namin, pero at least gumagana. Kahit marami kaming turnovers, medyo nakakabalik naman kami sa limelight. Sana magtuluy-tuloy ito,” said Perpetual Coach Jimwell Gican.
Perpetual slowly dictated the pace before taking control, leading by as many as 17 points and protecting a double-digit lead in the final quarter.
Nigerian Bright Akhuetie spearheaded that assault with a double-double performance of 15 points and 12 rebounds, while swatting away two blocks.
Gab Dagangon also starred for the Altas with 15 points and eight boards, even as Jeffrey Coronel stepped up with 10 markers and five rebounds.
EAC struggled offensively with a 16-of-71 field goal shooting, managing only four triples out of 20 tries and 12 two-pointers out of 51 attempts.
Remy Morada, Hamadou Laminou, and Sidney Onwubere fought back in the second half with combined 30 points, but their reinforcements failed to deliver.
