Shame them, but don’t shut them down.
This was the appeal of militant labor group, Partido Manggagawa (PM), to President Duterte yesterday amid his latest pronouncement against contractualization.
In a statement, PM chair Renato Magtubo urged to start a “shame campaign” against the top practitioners of the controversial work scheme in the country.
He said the move may force the so-called “endo lords” to finally regularize their workers.
Endo or “end of contract,” is the illegal practice of repeatedly hiring a worker for five months to avoid regularizing them.
“Maybe the most respected endo lords can be shamed into stopping their abusive contracting schemes once they are named by the President. It is common knowledge that endo is the norm among the malls, airlines, hotels, restaurants, shops, factories and even plantations,” PM chair Renato Magtubo said. (Samuel P. Medenilla)
