Filipino jins made another spectacular international performance recently when the Smart/MVP Sports Foundation team bagged 24 gold medals in the 2016 World Taekwondo Culture Expo competition in Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do, Korea.
Supported by PLDT and Meralco, the Smart/MVPSF athletes pocketed 13 golds in kyorugi (free sparring) and 11 more in poomsae (forms) in the event which drew 2,100 participants.
The Filipinos also brought home 16 silvers – six in sparring and 10 in poomsae – and 19 bronzes – 10 in sparring and nine in poomsae.
The gold medalists were Godwin Jacob Calupitan, Joaquin Antonio Marte, Dylan Reyes, Sean Falsis, Mikee Rose Regala, Allyah Dominique Eusalan, Ma. Katerina Mercurio, Dominique Navarro, Marc Jullian Navat, Zoi Buslig, Japeth Anga-Angan, Xenicah Manangbao, Algenne Marhee Amiruddin (sparring), Lance Oliver Ortillo, Joaquin Antonio Marte, Sean Falsis, Zachary Aguirre, Mikee Rose Regala, Allyah Dominique Eusalan, Marc Jullian Navat, Lizel Haboy, Cesar Oliver Basilio and Micah Angelica Torres (poomsae).
