As he wages a deadly war on illegal drugs, President Duterte is optimistic that he would go to heaven, not hell, when his life ends.
“Bakit ako mapunta ng hell? Hindi naman ko ‘yung, wala naman akong evil intent,” the President said in an assembly with an election watchdog in Malacañang Wednesday in defense of his government’s intensified campaign against drugs and other crimes.
But if he is sent straight to hell, the tough-talking President declared he won’t cowered in fear and even beat Satan for the throne.
“Kung mapunta ako ng impyerno, hindi ako magpa-lugi,” said Duterte who has authorized law enforcers to kill drug suspects who resist arrest or endanger their lives.
“Papuntahin mo ako impiyerno, unang sipain ko Satanas. ‘Umalis ka diyan. May bagong tigas dito (pag) hindi balbakuwa ‘yung buntot mo,” he added, drawing laughter from the audience.
Should his enemies try to kill him, the 71-year-old Duterte admitted that he is “glad to go to heaven” after many years in public service.
“I’m tired. I have been in the service of this government for 40 years. Hindi madali. It’s by no means an easy thing to do,” the former mayor of Davao City said. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
