Reigning UAAP women’s champion University of the East and San Sebastian College debut as the MVPSF-Meralco Philippine Taekwondo League resumes after a two-week break with two days of action-packed matches at the SM BF Parañaque tomorrow and SM Valenzuela on Sunday.
The Lady Warriors and Lady Stags kick off hostilities at 12 noon at SM BF Parañaque in Group A of the senior women’s division of the event organized and sanctioned by the Philippine Taekwondo Association and sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation and Meralco.
UP and Letran also make their debut in Group B of the men’s senior division at 1 p.m. while San Sebastian battles UP in another Group A match at 2 p.m. of the competition also supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Other Group B senior men’s matches pit NU against Letran at 3:30 p.m. and UP versus NU at 5:30 p.m., sandwiching the last Group A senior women’s match between UE and UP at 4:30 p.m..
Over at SM Valenzuela the next day, Mapua and La Salle take a bow in Group C of the men’s senior division at 1 p.m. after the junior division match in Group C at 12 o’clock between La Salle and FEU-FERN.
Other senior matches in Group C has La Salle tackling FEU at 3:30 p.m. and FEU battling Mapua at 5:30 p.m. while the remaining junior jousts sees FEU taking on Emilio Aguinaldo College ICA at 3 p.m. and EAC meeting La Salle at 4:30 p.m.
PTL tournament director Stephen Fernandez reiterated that the meet serves as the breeding ground for promising taekwondo talents.
As part of exposing the participants to actual tournament conditions overseas, the PTL uses the electronic scoring system and the protective scoring system, according to Fernandez.
