The vice mayor of Pamplona, Cagayan was gunned down by two men Friday.
Senior Insp. Francis Pattad, Pamplona chief of police, identified the victim as Vice Mayor Aaron Sampaga, 39, married.
Pattad said Sampaga was having a drinking spree with six others during a gathering in the house of a friend in Barangay Masi, Pamplona when two men on board a motorcycle arrived and shot the victim several times, killing him on the spot.
The suspects armed with an M-16 Armalite rifle and a caliber .45 pistol fled afterwards.
One person was reportedly wounded by a stray bullet during the incident. He was identified as Ralger de Guzman.
Sampaga was a three-term Pamplona mayor before he ran and won as vice mayor in the last elections. His sister, Arnie Angelica Sampaga, succeeded him as mayor.
