President Duterte has disclosed that the names in the government’s list of drug personalities include not only mayors, but also members of the Judiciary and Congress.
In a speech during his visit to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command headquarters in Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City Friday, the President said he will release the names of these drug personalities soon, but stressed that the intention is not simply to destroy their reputation.
According to the President, it is his obligation to let the Filipino people know about what is happening in the country.
“If I read the names now of the judges, which I will in a few hours, few days, may mga congressman, it’s not because gusto ko silang si-raan,” said Duterte.
“Hindi ko kilala ito. Pati mga police, judges, mga congressman. But it behooves upon me, nandito sa akin ’yun obligasyon, to tell the Filipino people of what is happening to this country,” he emphasized.
The President has been making the rounds of military camps since July, and during his visits, the Commander-in-Chief has repeatedly asked the support of the soldiers in the government’s anti-drug campaign.
He continues to explain the extent of the drug problem in the country. According to the 71-year-old President, he has ordered the AFP to provide the space for rehabilitation centers throughout the country.
And as the government is bent to pursue its no-nonsense war against the drug menace and criminality, Duterte assured the soldiers and policemen of his support if they get into any trouble in the performance of their duty. (Elena L. Aben)
