Jomaru Amagan and Manuel Medina came out smoking for University of Santo Tomas (UST) as it outhustled San Beda, 25-14, 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13, yesterday in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Amagan set the court ablaze with 25 points, 22 coming from spikes, while Medina sizzle with 20 hits including 19 kills for the Tigers’ second straight win in two starts.
The victory put UST in a three-way tie on top with Ateneo and University of the Philippines in Group B.
The Tigers flashed their brilliance on their attacks as they tried to destroy the Lions’ defensive wall at the net.
Tyrone Carodan also exploded for UST with 11 points including three blocks and two aces, even as skipper Arnold Bautista Jr. finished 11 points.
The Tigers stuck on their starters for most parts of the one and a half match to bring down the Lions for their second straight defeat in as many games.
Guest players Jan Berlin Paglinawan and Peter Torres topscored for San Beda with 17 and 10 points, respectively, but they were no match for UST’s offensive prowess.
In the other game, Far Eastern University (FEU) downed College of St. Benilde, 25-17, 26-28, 25-15, 25-21, to even its win-loss record at 1-1 in Group A.
John Paul Bugaoan led the Tamaraws with 20 points built on 14 kills and six blocks, while captain Greg Dolor added 19 hits.
