Global took advantage of Ceres-La Salle’s stunning defeat over the weekend by pummeling Forza, 12-0, Wednesday to extend its lead in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Misagh Bahadoran scored four goals while Hikaru Minegishi and Omir Nazari netted three apiece as Global remained unbeaten in 12 matches with 11 victories and one draw for 34 points.
But more importantly, the UFL Cup champions stretched their gap over Ceres to six points after the latter absorbed a shock 2-1 defeat to seventh-place Green Archers United last Sunday.
Also scoring for double-seeking Global booters were Andreas Esswein and Matt Hartmann.
In the second game, JP Voltes denied Green Archers a second straight upset with a 3-0 victory to climb to third in the 12-team league table.
Voltes took the early 1-0 lead on an own goal by Green Archers’ Ronnie Aguisanda before Japanese striker Takumi Uesato struck twice to seal the win.
JP Voltes tied Ceres at 28 points with the latter having a game at hand and one ahead of the Loyola Meralco Sparks.
