F2 Logistics goes for the kill when it clashes with a still gasping Foton side in Game 2 of their 2016 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference women’s volleyball tournament best-of-three finals series today at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Action starts at 2:30 p.m. with the Cargo Movers looking to deliver the knockout blow to finally win their first title in the club tournament bankrolled by KLab Cyscorpions, Mikasa, Asics and Mueller with TV5 as official broadcast partner.
Bannered by the stars of UAAP powerhouse La Salle, the Cargo Movers drew first blood following a heart-stopping 25-20, 25-14, 9-25, 20-25, 15-10 victory in Game 1, much to the delight of thousands of supporters who braved the rain and weekday traffic just to witness topnotch volleyball action late Thursday.
F2 Logistics quickly took the first two sets, but crumbled under pressure in the third and fourth as Foton – behind the hot smashes of Jaja Santiago at the middle and Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain on the wings – hounded and pounded its defense to stretch the match to a fifth set.
Fortunately for the Cargo Movers, the Tornadoes had a terrible time with their reception in the decider, allowing them to erect a 7-5 lead before Aby Maraño scored on a block off Rondina and Mika Reyes connected an ace to shatter the close game.
Maraño was unstoppable on both ends as she delivered 11 kills and five blocks while Ara Galang and Kim Dy chipped in a combined 17 hits for F2 Logistics, which won all but one game in the double-round eliminations.
