(JOHN JEROME GANZON)Unbeaten TNT KaTropa stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 109-89 victory over Blackwater yesterday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A 25-7 tear, behind new import Mychal Ammons and Asian reinforcement Michael Madanly, turned a 78-all game into a commanding 103-85 lead with 3:01 left.

Ammons scored eight points while Madanly added six points as the duo got the backing from locals Ryan Reyes, Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo.

Ammons, who replaced Mario Little, finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds, Madanly added 15 points. De Ocampo led TNT with 20 points and rookie forward Troy Rosario chipped in 15 points.

Castro, the team’s leading scorer with 23 points prior to the game, came in late and played only in the second half, scoring nine points.
The win was TNT’s fifth straight while the loss was the Elite’s fourth in five games.

“Medyo rusty at the start, because we are trying to feel out (new import) Ammons and he was trying to feel us out also. We were struggling at the start,” said TNT head coach Jong Uichico, adding that Little is on the injured list that’s why they needed Ammons to fill in.
