Criminal activities have decreased in the first month in office of President Duterte.
Based on a report from the Philippine National Police, Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Martin Andanar said crime incidents have fallen to 50,817 in July 2016 compared to 56,339 cases in the same period last year.
The police also recorded 11,800 incidents of index crimes in July 2016, a 31 percent decrease from 17,105 in July last year, according to Andanar.
To further reduce crimes in the country, Andanar appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in the campaign against security threats. He reiterated that the President is committed to suppress illegal drugs within three to six months in office.
Meanwhile, the PNP has yet to resolve a single case of alleged extrajudicial killings linked to the all-out campaign against illegal drugs across the country.
Senior Supt. Fausto Manzanilla, executive officer of the Directorate for Investigation and Detection Group, said they are still investigating cases of alleged extrajudicial killings to determine if they are drug-related, perpetrated by vigilante groups, or simply the usual murder or homicide cases.
“So far, the data submitted to us, those deaths are still under investigation, meaning, there’s no definite result yet,” said Manzanilla.
