MULTI-RACIAL – The Philippines is truly a multi-racial country, thanks to a large extent to OFW (overseas Filipino workers). They are everywhere in the world, in all five continents: America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania.
Our workers – Blue collars, professionals – marry nationals of where they are employed, producing pretty mestizas and handsome mestizos who join showbiz – movies, television, commercials, beauty contest.
Of course, from way back, there were already “half-breeds,” mostly Americans and Spaniards. Understandable as we under Spain for over 300 years and United States for 50 years.
Think of all those stars with American and Spanish blood in the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s.
But now they are more varied. Those with Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, Japanese, German, Italian, Austrian, French, Portugese, Black, Morrocan, Middle Eastern blood. And, of course, American and Spanish.

NEW ZEALANDER – Highspeed contributor Mel Caparas reports that a New Zealander (actually half, the other half being Filipino), Laurence Mossman, renewed his contract as endorser of the beauty product Psalmstre New Placenta, joining Ejay Falcon and Andrea Biondo, half-French and half-Italian, respectively.
The lady endorser is Miss Earth-Air 2012 Stefanywitz, whose surname is Eastern European.
Laurence is in the ABS-CBN soap “Dolce Amore” topbilled by Liza Soberano (American), Enrique Gil (Spanish), and Matteo Guidecelli (Italian).
And that he’s cast in the movie “Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend?” starring Anne Curtis (Australian), Paolo Ballesteros (Spanish), and Dennis Trillo (Chinese). But of course many Filipinos have Chinese blood.
Mel C says that Laurence is again with Paolo B in the movie “Die Beautiful,” where he plays a doctor.
Heard Laurence is appearing with Lea Salonga in the play “Fun Home” and might just land a role in “Miss Saigon.”

ENOUGH, PLEASE! – Aren’t there too many beauty contests around?
Every other day, a beauty title for men and women is announced. Consider such titles as Jewel of the Philippines, Miss Finessa, Binibining Filipina (not Pilipinas), Maginoo, Makisig, Mermaid, Bikini Universe.
In no time. There will be more titles than contestants.
Of course, Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Universe and Miss International), Miss Philippines-World, Miss Philippines-Earth, and Mutya ng Pilipinas are the major titles.
Enough, please!
