DAVAO CITY – Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is seven weeks pregnant with triplets which will be her second pregnancy with husband Atty. Mans Carpio.
This was confirmed by City Information Office (CIO) chief Jefry Tupas in a press conference on Friday at the City Hall.
In her message read by Tupas, the mayor said that she cannot join the Kadayawan 2016 celebrations after she was advised by her doctor to avoid crowded places to lessen the chances of acquiring infections.
“We are expecting triplets and they are doing well on their 7th week. The human body is made to carry just one baby and I am experiencing threefold all the pregancy symptoms that a woman goes through,” she said.
Duterte said she is experiencing the symptoms and the complications of a multifetal pregnancy but vows to continue acting as the mayor only until allowed by her doctor.
“I may be physically weak but rest assured that I am on top of the situation here in our city,” she said.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Martin Andanar said that President Rodrigo Duterte is delighted to learn his daughter is expecting triplets.
“He is also hopeful that she will able to see through the pregnancy smoothly and well. Mayor Sara’s pregnancy serves as a source of inspiration for the Chief Executive to roll up his sleeves and work double time in his fight against crimes and drugs.
Andanar said the president “hopes to leave a legacy of a Philippines safe and secure from crimes and drugs to future generation of Filipinos. We offer our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Mayor and husband, lawyer Manases Carpio.” (With a report from Genalyn D. Kabiling) (ANTONIO L. COLINA IV)
