Far Eastern, UP clash, stake unbeaten slates.
Ateneo tries to stay alive in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference when it battles unbeaten National University today at The Arena in San Juan City.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the Lady Eagles facing a must-win situation against the defending champion Lady Bulldogs.
Toting a 1-2 win-loss record at fourth place in Group A, a victory for Ateneo would tie it with Technological Institute of the Philippines (2-2) and arrange a playoff match for the remaining quarterfinal berth.
NU, which carries a 3-0 slate, and San Sebastian College, which has a 3-1 card, already earned slots in the next phase along with Group B quarterfinalists Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines, and University of Santo Tomas.
Ateneo is upbeat of its chances despite its current situation, and is hoping to follow up its 27-25, 25-13, 25-16 victory over University of Perpetual Help five days ago.
But NU is a tough nut to crack with Jaja Santiago, Rosielyn Doria, Aiko Urdas and Jasmine Nabor comprising the core of the squad.
In their 25-10, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25 triumph over Perpetual last Wednesday, the Lady Bulldogs still played with their usual fierce even without Santiago with Nabor fueling the team with 11 points and 62 excellent sets.
With an all-around setter in Nabor, Ateneo only hopes it can provide rock-solid defense against NU’s strong offensive game.
The Lady Eagles are relying on Bea De Leon, Jia Morado, Kim Gequillana and Ana Gopico to banner the team.
In the other game, UP and FEU clash at 4 p.m. in a battle of two unbeaten teams in Group B.
The Lady Maroons and the Lady Tams carry identical 3-0 marks.
In the Spikers’ Turf, San Beda (1-2) and National College of Business and Arts (0-3) tangle at 10 a.m., while Perpetual (3-0) and NU (2-1) meet at 12 noon.
