Ateneo, TIP dispute last V-League slot.
Reigning champion National University and University of Santo Tomas clash today in the quarterfinals even as Ateneo and Technological Institute of the Philippines battle for the remaining quarters berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Tigresses square off at 4 p.m. at the start of the round-robin, carryover phase while the Lady Eagles and the Lady Engineers collide at 6 p.m. to catch the last quarters bus.
Both NU and UST are determined to regain their lost steam after losing their previous matches despite booking quarters tickets as early as last week.
The Bulldogs bowed to the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 25-15, 27-25, 25-17, while the Tigresses yielded to fellow quarterfinalist Far Eastern University Lady Tams, 25-14, 25-18, 25-23.
While NU and UST resume their title bids in the next phase, Ateneo and TIP try to keep theirs alive.
Ateneo stayed in the hunt after shocking NU two days back to tie with TIP at 2-2.
Apart from the quarters seat, the Lady Eagles also aim to avenge their 24-26, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 12-15 loss to the Lady Engineers in their first meeting last Aug. 3.
Skipper Michelle Morente will be at the forefront of Ateneo’s attack after firing 20 points the last time, while Kim Gequillana, Bea De Leon, Ana Gopico and setter Jia Morado will comprise the core of the squad.
TIP, meanwhile, refuse to be intimidated with veteran guest players Mylene Paat and setter Chie Saet leading the team.
In the Spikers’ Turf, San Beda (1-2) meets University of the Philippines (2-1) at 10 a.m., while FEU (2-1) squares off with University of Perpetual Help (3-0) at 12 noon.
