Stanley Pringle bagged his first Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the Governors Cup after playing a huge role in GlobalPort’s huge 98-92 upset over defending champion San Miguel Beer last Friday.
The six-foot Fil-American guard was at his element against the Beermen, pumping a team-high 25 points, four assists and two rebounds for the Batang Pier’s second straight win in the season-ending conference.
Pringle beat a strong cast of candidates for the weekly citation led by Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and Sol Mercado, Meralco’s Jared Dillinger and Mahindra forward Aldrech Ramos.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year pumped in six crucial points inside the final 5 minutes of the final period to keep the Beermen from regaining the lead.
His backcourt mate Terrence Romeo, then took over in the last 25 seconds when Pringle went down with cramps, scoring four consecutive points to complete GlobalPort’s win.
The Batang Pier are trying to recover lost ground since opening the conference with four straight defeats. GlobalPort snapped its losing skid just over a week ago behind its 126-123 double overtime win against the Meralco Bolts.
