University of Perpetual Help bounced back from last week’s stinging loss as it dumped College of St. Benilde, 70-45, yesterday in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Altas, who are coming off a 71-55 loss to the San Sebastian Stags, slowly worked their momentum against the Blazers’ persistent runs before dominating the last two quarters.
It was Perpetual’s ninth victory against three defeats to remain on the Top 3 of the standings, while St. Benilde tumbled into its 12th consecutive loss – its worst start since joining the league in 1998.
The Blazers’ team output was also the worst this season since they bowed to San Sebastian, 54-49 last June 26.
Bright Akhuetie fueled the Altas with 15 points and six rebounds, while Prince Eze also took charge with a double-double effort of 10 points and 12 boards.
“Galing kami sa talo kaya kailangan bumawi. Mabuti naman at lumabas yung laro namin, especially yung execution namin sa depensa,” said Perpetual Help coach Jimwell Gican.
St. Benilde last led midway in the second quarter when JJ Domingo and Carlo Young sparked a 7-0 blast for a 26-25 edge.
But the Altas sezied comtrol for a 34-28 halftime lead highlighted by a buzzer-beating triple from Gab Dagangon.
