Far Eastern University and San Sebastian battle for the second quarterfinal berth today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The winner in their 4 p.m. confrontation will improve to 3-1 win-loss and join early quarterfinalist National University (3-1) in the next round.
FEU and San Sebastian are coming off contrasting fortunes in their previous matches, with the Lady Tams aiming to bounce back from their 17-25, 26-24, 25-14, 18-25, 11-15 loss to the Lady Bulldogs last Wednesday.
San Sebastian, for its part, is fresh from an inspiring 25-20, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19 triumph over eliminated team University Santo Tomas on the same day.
But FEU, which boasts of a deep core in Remy Palma, Toni Basas and Bernadeth Pons, is expected to make the necessary stops in duplicating its title feat two years back.
To do so, the Lady Tams must provide a tough defensive wall on the Lady Stags’ power hitter Grethcel Soltones, who sizzled with 23 points the last time.
Apart from Soltones, San Sebastian also has Katherine Villegas and Joyce Sta. Rita as reinforcements.
“Medyo hirap kami pagdating sa height, pero napupunan naman namin yung kakulangan namin dyan,” said San Sebastian assistant coach Clint Malazo.
Meanwhile, Ateneo and University of the Philippines (UP) try to keep their title bids alive when they collide at 6 p.m.
Both teams sport 1-2 slates.
In the Spikers’ Turf, San Beda (1-3) and National College of Business and Arts (1-3) collide at 10 a.m., while University of Perpetual Help (3-1) and NU (3-1) clash at 12 noon.
