Anti-narcotics policemen killed eight suspected drug pushers in separate buy-bust operations early Sunday as the war against drugs in Manila intensifies.
Members of Jose Abad Santos Police Station killed Alexander Cuyugan, 41; and an alias “Jeje Reyes,” around 30 to 35 years old; when an anti-drug operation was carried out inside the house of Cuyugan at Interior 2, Pilar Street, Tondo, Manila, around 1:30 a.m.
Operatives said that the two pulled out their guns when they sensed that they were being entrapped after an undercover police bought from them P300 worth of shabu.
Recovered from their possession were 10 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia and two .38-caliber pistols that they used against the operatives.
It was learned that Cuyugan was a notorious drug personality in their area and had been a subject of Oplan Tokhang, but refused to surrender himself and continued his involvement in illegal drugs trade.
In another operation, Sta. Ana police killed Ryan ‘Buwaya’ Eder, 29,inside his own home in Barangay 767, Zone 83 San Andres Bukid, Sta. Ana, Manila at around 2:50 a.m.
Senior Inspector Dave Abarra, chief of Dagonoy Police Community Precinct (PCP) said a police-poseur buyer went inside the house of Eder to buy R200 worth of shabu.
But before they sealed the deal, Eder sensed that his client is an undercover cop, prompting him to draw his .38-calbier revolver. But the alert cop immediately drew his service firearm and shot Eder.
Abarra said that the slain suspect was previously jailed due to a theft case and was also a subject of Oplan Tokhang but refused to surrender.
Seven sachets of suspected shabu, several drug paraphernalia and the gun he used against the operatives were recovered in the operation.
Meanwhile, five men, who were allegedly also involved in illegal drugs business, perished after they initiated a shootout with the police.
Plaza Miranda Police Community Precinct head Chief Inspector John Guiagui said that the operation happened along the Arlegui Street in Quiapo, Manila at around 6:45 a.m.
Guiagui said that a certain Eddie Taruyan was originally the target of the operation. It was reported that Taruyan was in the drug personality watchlist of Barangay 385.
Investigators said the four individuals, who were also living inside the house, also fired shots at the operatives, but to no avail. (Analou De Vera)
