Games Today
(Philsports Arena, Pasig City)
10 a.m. – PMMS vs CSB (men’s)
12 noon – UP vs Ateneo (men’s)
4 p.m. – UP vs NU (women’s)
University of the Philippines (UP) seeks to become the third team to make the semifinals as it battles defending champion National University (NU) today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Maroons are in dire need to win the 4 p.m. match and join the Lady Bulldogs and the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the next phase or face the prospect of being put in a precarious situation.
UP is in third place at 2-1, followed by San Sebastian (2-2) and Ateneo (1-2), which is slated to take on University of Santo Tomas in the second game at 6 p.m.
Bea De Leon, Michelle Morente and Jia Morado will resume leading Ateneo against the young but agile UST side composed of high school standout Eya Laure and Ria Meneses.
A UP loss coupled with an Ateneo win would create a three-way logjam for third to fifth, thus making an exciting race for the last two semis slots.
UP is expected to come out in high spirits after beating Ateneo, 25-18, 14-25, 25-20, 25-18, last Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Kathy Bersola, Issa Molde and Marian Buitre combined for 33 points in the win, although UP coach Jerry Yee expects his team to face another tough challenge in NU.
NU boasts of the deadly combo of Jaja Santiago and Jasmine Nabor.
