Two suspected members of a gun-for-hire and illegal drugs syndicate were arrested after engaging cops in a shootout in Quezon City, Monday afternoon.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said they arrested the other day Eugene Guico alias “Loy” and Ibrahim Abulkair alias “Amir” after they shot it out with operatives of the Batasan Police Station (PS-6) in Barangay Holy Spirit.
Senior Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD chief, said the two were suspected members of a gun-for-hire and illegal drugs group.
He said a concerned citizen around 2:35 p.m. tipped the PS-6 that a group of armed men were sighted at the corner of Fort Magsaysay Street Luzon Avenue.
Elements of the PS-6 Station Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (SAID-SOTG) proceeded to area to validate the report until they chanced upon Guico and Abulkair around 4:01 p.m.
The suspects suddenly fired at the approaching lawmen, triggering a gunfight.
Police seriously wounded Abulkair, who was later rushed to East Avenue Medical Center. He is still in the hospital’s intensive care unit, police said.
Guico, meanwhile, was apprehended and is now detained at the PS-6 headquarters in Barangay Batasan Hills.
Police seized from the scene two plastic sachets of shabu, an improvised tooter, a .38-caliber revolver, a loaded .45-caliber pistol, and four more .45-caliber magazines loaded with seven rounds each. They also confiscated from the suspects a black pouch bag containing eight plastic sachets of suspected shabu. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
