Games Today
(Smart Araneta)
4:15 p.m. – Globalport vs TNT Katropa
7 p.m. – San Miguel vs Meralco
With former best import AZ Reid still recovering from a foot injury, defending champion San Miguel Beer will parade Michael Singletary when the Beermen meet the Meralco Bolts in the PBA Governors’ Cup today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Reid, who helped the team win the championship last season, has missed the team’s previous game due to a swollen right Achilles, but the Beermen managed to beat the Alaska Aces, 106-103.
At the moment, SMB sports a 5-2 record, just half a game behind Mahindra and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel – currently tied at 6-2. A victory will earn the team a quarterfinal playoff berth.
The game between San Miguel and Meralco is scheduled at 7 p.m., right after the match between streaking Globalport and league-leader TNT Katropa set in the curtainraiser at 4:15 p.m.
TNT dropped a 107-104 decision to Mahindra last Friday – the team’s first setback after a 6-0 start.
Globalport, on the other hand, is currently the hottest team in the league, having won three consecutive games capped by a thrilling 101-99 victory over Commissioner’s Cup champion Rain or Shine last Saturday in Legazpi City.
All eyes are on SMB’s replacement import.
Singletary, the 6-foot-4 former Texas Tech stalwart, is not actually new since he played 10 games during the 2013 Governors’ Cup for the now defunct Barako Bull where he averaged 33.30 points and 12.80 rebounds.
Singletary, according to SMB coach Leo Austria, is here as a temporary reinforcement. (Waylon Galvez)
