Police are trying to establish the identity of the biological father of “Baby Jade”, the newborn who was dumped by her own mother in a garbage can in Valenzuela City recently.
This developed as Task Force Jade finally traced on Thursday the baby’s mother in a townhouse where she works a housemaid.
Police said Baby Jade was found in a garbage can in front of the house of Bam Siao Lim in Jade Garden Town-home, Barangay Marulas, last August 25.
In their affidavit given to the police, the maid’s employers claimed that they did not know that their 20-year-old helper was pregnant. The maid is a native of Quezon province.
The task force managed to trace the baby’s mother through the help of neighbors in the exclusive subdivision.
When interviewed, the maid said that she threw her baby into the garbage bin, thinking that she was already dead.
Probers, however, were not convinced by the statements of the maid and her bosses.
Zyan Caiña, Valenzuela Public Information Office (PIO) head, said the mother was found Wednesday night and only admitted the crime on Thursday.
Caiña said that the mother was suffering from “post-partum depression,” and is currently confined in a hospital in Valenzuela.
Mayor Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian guaranteed that appropriate charges will be filed against those who would be found liable for the inhuman act done on Baby Jade.
“They will be punished accordingly. I will make sure that they will face the consequences of their actions,” said Gatchalian.
Right now, Baby Jade is still in a coma with 50 percent chance to live, according to doctors at the Valenzuela General Hospital. (Jel Santos)
