The robbery suspect, who shot and killed a police officer in Parañaque City during a heist at a convenience store, was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men while being escorted by cops to a hospital for medical checkup, Sunday afternoon.
According to Supt. Jenny Tecson, Southern Police District (SPD) spokesperson, the suspect was identified as Danny Gomez.
Tecson said Gomez was the companion of Freddie Palacay who was killed during a shootout with members of the Paranaque Police Community Precinct 2 led by Chief Inspector Joel Pagaduan after staging a holdup at 7-11 convenience store on Pascor Drive, Barangay Sto. Niño, early Sunday morning.
Gomez shot Pagaduan in the neck before he escaped, leaving behind his dead companion Palacay.
Chief Inspector Pagaduan died while undergoing treatment in hospital.
Citing the report of Parañaque Police, the SPD spokesperson said Gomez was arrested during a follow-up operation.
Gomez was then being escorted by cops to Parañaque Community Hospital for the required medical checkup at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when two motorcycle-riding men suddenly appeared.
One of the riders shot Gomez twice in the head.
Senior Supt. Jose Carumba, Parañaque City Police chief, said that the suspects exchanged fire with the police, who were caught off guard, before they sped off.
Police rushed Gomez to the hospital but he expired at 7:12 p.m., Carumba said. (Jean Fernando, Martin A. Sadongdong)
