Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial was urged yesterday to “save” the 65-year-old Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital by modernizing it in its present location.
“Fabella Hospital is on the brink of privatization. Save Fabella Movement together with other health workers are urging the Department of Health Secretary Ubial to save Fabella Hospital by modernizing it in its present location with the use of public funds,” said Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) President Robert Mendoza.
Health workers believe that “a true program for health is when there is no need for the public hospitals to collect money from the people in order to sustain the operation.”
“We therefore call on President Duterte to scrap the policies of privatization and corporatization and all forms of privatization in health services and instead implement a free, comprehensive and progressive health care system that is pro-poor, service-oriented and state subsidized,” Mendoza said.
