ZAMBOANGA CITY – Zamboanga City congressman Celso Lobregat has made an appeal to the Philippine National Police leadership to spare their city from being the destination of scalawag policemen.
Lobregat made the appeal following the threat of PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa to rogue policemen, particularly those assigned in Luzon, of possible reassignment in Mindanao, particularly the Zamboanga Peninsula.
“Transferring policemen involved in drugs from Luzon to Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi is not solving the problem in the organization, you are just transferring the same problem to another region,” said Lobregat.
Lobregat also extended his appeal to Interior and Local Government Secretary Mike Sueno to provide them instead with honest and dependable policemen to assure their city of quality police service.
Reassigning rascals, Lobregat added, would do more harm than good not only within the police force itself but also within the community where these mischiefs would end up.
“Such statement of Chief PNP Dela Rosa is not the solution. It would be much better if he will suspend or freeze those erring PNP personnel rather than relocate them and still continue their illegal acts,” Lobregat said.
A shake-up within the police force is expected to happen soon now that the PNP under Dela Rosa’s reign is gtradually stepping up its fight against all forms of criminality. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
