Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II is set to present around 20 resource persons before the Congressional panel investigating the illegal drug activities at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
“I intend to present 20 resource persons and witnesses during the House probe,” Aguirre said.
Aguirre is scheduled to appear before the penal at the House of Representatives this September 19 and 20.
Meantime, he continues to interview witnesses to sift through the details and build up their case.
“Bumabaha kasi sa impormansyon,” he explained.
A group of solons led by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and Minority Leader Danilo Suarez called for the House probe into the alleged NBP illegal drug operations shortly after President Rodrigo Duterte implicated Senator Leila de Lima and her alleged former lover and driver Ronnie Dayan in the illegal activities.
The House Committee on Justice is expected to lead the congressional inquiry although the Committees on Public Order and Security and on Illegal Drugs may also be tapped.
Earlier, justice committee chairman and Mindoro Oriental Rep. Reynaldo Umali said that Dayan has been taped as the principal resource person whose presence in the hearing is indispensable.
De Lima has already expressed her intention not to appear before the House probe. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
