DAVAO CITY – One of the more than 70 people who were injured during the deadly bombing at a night market here last September 2 has died.
21-year-old Vicenta Asperin who is six months pregnant expired Monday evening due to an infection that affected her head wounds she suffered during the blast.
Asperin was initially brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center where she underwent an operation to reduce the swelling on her head which was severely injured by bomb fragments.
Asperin, who was in a state of coma during her entire ordeal, was later transferred to a private hospital, the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC) where she stayed at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until her death.
The city government has promised to provide for the expenses of all the victims of the blast, including burial, wake, and other expenses.
Asperin’s remains were brought to the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapels. She will then be transferred at their residence located at the Brgy. Sto Nino relocation site.
Asperin becomes the 15th casualty of the deadly blast where 10 of the first 14 victims died on the spot.
Recently, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Monday confirmed that the national police already knew the mastermind in the bombing attack.
Dela Rosa said that although they already knew the identity of the mastermind, however, it could not still be made public because the PNP was still building up the case against the suspect. (Yas D. Ocampo)
