Former Speaker and Quezon City Rep. Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. laughed off yesterday President Duterte’s accusation that the Liberal Party was behind the mounting moves to impeach him.
Belmonte said the supposed ouster plot against the Chief Executive will not prosper given his overwhelming popularity and the solid support that his congressional allies is extending to his administration.
The vice chairman of the LP said there is no chance that the Lower Chamber will support the impeachment of the “very popular” state leader.
“Definitely LP is not a Trojan Horse,” Belmonte said. There are 33 LP members in the Lower Chamber, 28 of whom are allied with the supermajority led by Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez.
Belmonte also rejected the President’s claims that LP is using his intensified campaign on drugs to destroy his image and move forward his supposed ouster. (CHARISSA M. LUCI)
