Presidential chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo said yesterday that no amount of black propaganda will stop President Duterte’s no-nonsense campaign against illegal drugs and terrorism.
Panelo brushed off allegations made by confessed hitman Edgar Matobato against Duterte during a Senate hearing Thursday.
According to Panelo, Matobato is a “perjured witness” and that his testimonies could be part of the efforts by Duterte’s critics to destroy the President.
“The fact alone that he has been with the Witness Protection Program for how many years, 2-3 years, eh di dapat noon niya pa sinabi ’yung mga pinagsasabi niya. Gumawa siya ng affidavit as admitted by Sen. De Lima, wala naman daw ’yun sa affidavit. Bakit ngaun lang?” Panelo said.
“If you are watching the Senate investigation, obvious na obvious na hindi totoo ’yung mga pinagsasasabi,” he said, adding that even senators themselves expressed suspicion on Matobato’s testimony.
Panelo said that obviously, whoever is behind Matobato is only out to smear the name of the President and his family. (Elena L. Aben)
