Typhoon “Gener” (international name “Malakas”) moved away from the country yesterday, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration to lift the tropical cyclone warning signal over Batanes.
Gener was located 460 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes before noon yesterday, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 210 kph.
A stronger Gener left the country’s area of responsibility at around 1 p.m. yesterday.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Apayao, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Tomorrow until Tuesday, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Luzon, and Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms. The rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. (Ellalyn B. de Vera)
