A Chinese businessman tagged by police as a drug personality was gunned down by four unidentified men in front of a hotel in Binondo, Manila, Saturday night.
Police identified the slain Chinese trader as Shi Hua Tian alias Andy, 28, of Jose Abad Santos, Binondo.
Investigators said Tian was driving along Tomas Mapua Street with his girlfriend, Dony Ya Lin, 26, at 11:15 p.m. when men riding on motorcycles suddenly appeared behind the vehicle and started following them.
When they reached the Blue Lane Hotel near Ongpin Street, the gunmen fired successive shots at Tian.
The suspects then fled towards Ongpin Street to DasmariƱas Street.
Tian was brought to the Metropolitan Hospital where he died after a couple of hours.
His girlfriend was unharmed but probers could no longer locate her.
According to police record, Tian was in the drug watchlist of Meisic Police Station (PS-11).
An investigation is underway to determine if his death is linked to his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities, an investigator said.
Police investigators recovered 10 spent shells and four fired bullets of a .45-caliber firearm at the crime scene. (Betheena Kae Unite)
