San Sebastian made sure it would exit the season with a bang as the Stags pummeled the Jose Rizal University Bombers, 85-58, yesterday in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Stags displayed intensity in their final elimination game by overpowering the lethargic Bombers all throughout, taking a comfortable 69-44 cushion at the start of the fourth period.
Allyn Bulanadi led the Stags with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Ryan Costelo and Michael Calisaan added 13 points apiece and combined for 12 boards.
SSC finished the season with eight wins against 10 losses at seventh place – seven of its victories coming in the second round.
The Stags also surpassed their last season seventh-place performance of 6-12.
“We jelled very late, but ang maganda lang dun, everybody didn’t want to lose anymore,” said SSC coach Egay Macaraya, whose team only dropped two matches in the second round.
“I just hope that we will be healthy and more competitive next season,” added Macaraya as the Stags are still expected to keep their young lineup intact for next year.
