The Supreme Court yesterday condemned the attempt on the life of a judge in Butuan City Friday.
SC spokesperson Theodore Te urged the Philippine National Police to get to the bottom of the incident against Butuan City Regional Trial Court Judge Hector Salise.
“The Court condemns in the strongest terms attempts to subvert the rule of law through silencing of judges and calls on the authorities concerned to take all necessary steps with all deliberate speed to fully investigate this attempt on Judge Salise and to prevent any such recurrences,” Te said.
Te said that the SC also expressed concern on the condition of his police escort, SPO1 Edmund D. Narvasa.
Salise and Narvasa were on their way to Bayugan City when unidentified armed men ambushed them in Barangay Limon, Butuan City. They were taken to the hospital where they are now recuperating.
Police said that Salise returned fire but it was unclear if he wounded any of the four suspects. Salise was reportedly handling several drug cases. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
