The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFW) against a new online scam offering fake employment offers in Canada, Mexico and Europe.
In an advisory, POEA Administrator Hans Cacdac said Omegal Manpower Services Limited, which has been offering job placement through e-mail in exchange for a placement fee, is not a legitimate recruitment agency.
“An internet search, however, revealed that Omegal Manpower Services Limited does not exist,” Cacdac said.
“Job applicants should ignore unsolicited emails that offer jobs in hotels and hospitals but requires applicants to pay fees for testing, interview and language seminar, or visa orientation”, Cacdac said.
Cacdac urged aspiring OFWs to always first check with POEA if the recruitment agency, where they are applying for, is licensed or not to avoid becoming victims of such illegal schemes.
“To validate the authenticity of job offers through POEA’s verification system at the website poea.gov.ph, mobile phone application, or by calling its telephone hotlines 7221144 and 7221155,” Cacdac said. (Samuel Medenilla)
