If the mother of Kapuso hunk Derrick Monasterio would have her way, she wanted her son to marry someone who is not connected with show business.
“Parang hindi maganda kung taga-showbiz ang mapapangasawa nya. Mas maganda siguro ’yung simple lang, someone who is not popular. Pero it’s up to him kung sino ang gusto n’ya,” said former 70s star Tina Monasterio, who was interviewed at the sidelines of Miss Global 2016 beauty contest where her son was one of the hosts.
Asked about the qualities of a good wife for Derrick, she said: “Gusto ko sana understanding at syempre mahal sya, may pera man o wala. At saka stick talaga sya sa anak ko and always on his side. Someone who will push him to better himself as a person and as an actor.”
Derrick, 21, is one of three children of Tina. She also said that Derrick, who is her second child, is the only one interested in showbiz. “Yung dalawa walang hilig sa pag-aartista.Mag-aaral muna siguro.”
Tina always advises her son to keep his feet on the ground and love his fans all the time.
“I always tell Derrick to respect the people around him,” she said.
Tina describes her son as someone who is generous and down to earth. “Hindi s’ya plastic. Hindi pang showbiz ang ugali nya.”
At home, Tina said that her son loves to eat and go to the gym.
Derrick has been single for nine months now after he broke up with Issa Pressman, sister of actress Yassi Pressman, in 2015.
He said that his recent crushes were FHM sexiest Filipina Jessy Mendiola and new Kapuso talent Pauleen Mendoza.
Derrick will be seen in the new GMA-7 weekly sitcom “Tsuper Hero” alongside Bea Binene. He will play the role a jeepney driver with supernatural powers.
Derrick was introduced in the youth-oriented series “Tween Hearts” in 2010.
The Kapuso hunk has recorded his debut CD entitled “Derrick Monasterio.”
Derrick is a freshman taking up a Legal Management course at San Beda College in Manila.
