Praises poured in for the late former Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago as thousands of her supporters, relatives, and colleagues trooped to the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City to pay their respects in the last day of her wake yesterday.
Unwavered by the long queue and the afternoon heat, about 50,000 of Miriam’s supporters lined up to get a glimpse and pay their respects to the former senator for the last time.
Miriam, who died in her sleep at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City Thursday due to cancer, will be interred this afternoon at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.
Vince Agustin, an official of the Youth for Miriam, the group assisting in Miriam’s funeral, said volunteers only had two hours of sleep as people kept coming in for the public viewing.
Most of them were students and youth coming from as far Laguna and arrived in convoys of buses, Agustin said.
Employees working on a weekend also took time to visit Miriam. “Especially call center agents, siguro mga before or after ng shift, maaga silang pumunta dito,” Agustin said. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
