What’s your kind of pet? Many would say dogs are their favorite. Others prefer cats.
But, have you met someone who takes care of a turtle as a pet?
In Tokyo, a 62-year-old man, Hisao Mitani, was reported to be the caregiver of a not so ordinary pet for the past 20 years. His pet is a tortoise.
According to http://www.atlasobscura.com/, Mitani, a retired funeral parlor owner, usually goes for a long walk with his slow-moving pet tortoise named Bon-Chan. As of the last count, the pet was already 20 years old, and counting more years.
Mitani bought Bon-Chan, an African tortoise, from a pet store.
He immediately fell in love with the animal.
Bon-Chan then was so small that he could fit Mitani’s hand. He has grown up to three feet long. He weighs about 70 kilograms, or 154 pounds.
Mitani has found a walking companion in Bon-chan several times a week. He has been doing so for two decades.
A tortoise like Bon-chan can live up to 100 years. It gives Mitani assurance that he and his pet will have a lot of time together.
