CAMP JULIAN OLIVAS, Pampanga – Charges have been filed before Pampanga courts against movie and television actor Mark Anthony Fernandez even though the arraignment has been suspended.
The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) disclosed through its director Chief Supt. Aaron N. Aquino that they have filed charges for violation of Sections 5, 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act against Fernandez before the Angeles City Regional trial Court Branch 60.
Apart from that, Fernandez will also face another case for civil disobedience after he supposedly ran away from authorities during a checkpoint that yielded almost a kilo of marijuana in the actor’s vehicle.
The camp of Fernandez has filed an appeal regarding the case and is also requesting that the troubled actor be transferred to the Pampanga Provincial Jail.
Aquino said Fernandez, son of the late actor Rudy Fernandez and actress Alma Moreno, will be facing a non-bailable offense and may face up a lifetime prison term.
“The transport of prohibited drugs is sanctioned with life imprisonment,’’ Aquino said. “There is no bail for that as stated in Section 5 of the law.’’
Fernandez claims the marijuana seized from him is being used as cancer prevention and was even prescribed to him by his physician.
Aquino however scoffed at Fernandez’ claim which the police official said has no legal or medical basis.
