Newcomer Bureau of Customs continued its remarkable winning run, pulling off a heart-stopping 93-92 win over House of Representatives over the weekend to take the solo lead in Group B elims in the 5th UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.
In a wild and wooly finish, former Adamson player Jerome Ejercito emerged as the luckiest of them all – his Hail Mary shot from midcourt was answered that had BOC supporters, including playing coach Kenneth Duremdes and BOC Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, jumping in sheer delight.
Ejercito got the chance to be the hero of the game after HOR’s Kiko Adriano bungled his second free throw with 3.2 ticks left.
BOC’s win – its third straight in as many outings – negated Egay Billiones’ tournament-high 45 points, including a triple late in the game that gave HOR a 91-90 lead.
Its victory likewise overshadowed Bureau of Fire Protection’s stunning 78-74 win over defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines in Group A elims.
The Malacañang Kamao proved too classy for the Senate Defenders, scoring a convincing 82-54 win with former UST star Christian Luanzon leading the way with 15 points.
The champion in the event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon will receive P4 million which will be donated to its chosen charity.
