STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan – Farmers will benefit from the five million kilos of expired frozen meat which will be subject for composting today.
The Bureau of Customs and other concerned agencies including the National Hog Raisers Federation and Samahang Industriya ng Magsasaka (SINAG) recently met and decided that the expired frozen meat be subjected to composting.
“Kapag sinabi nating rendering iluluto iyong expired frozen meat at gawin sanang feeds, subalit mas mahalaga na itoy gawin na lang fertizer at mas safe gamitin ng magsasaka, SINAG said in a statement.
Out of five million kilos of frozen meat at least two to three million kilos will be converted to organic fertilizer which will later on be given to the farmers.
SINAG said they came up with the decision to benefit farmers and that the composting will take two to three months before farmers start benefiting from it. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
